John and Rob met in 2010 and discovered they were both audio engineers. This kicked off a deep friendship and healthy(ish) obsession with all things sound/recording related. It wasn’t long after they realized that it would be pretty friggin’ awesome to work together recording killer music in the Ottawa area. It was a perfect fit – both had attended Fanshawe College’s MIA program. John developed a career as a professional live sound engineer with a real talent for tracking great sounds, and Rob never stopped recording through all those years and feels most at home massaging sonic greatness from recorded tracks. A partnership was born! Slowly they started combining and collecting gear and testing the waters, and here we are, 2019, many great recording projects have been done together, spanning several genres. Time to make it official – River Sound is on the scene.
We’re about making it work economically – but using years of experience and high quality gear to get the best possible results for your project. From singer songwriter to full bands, jazz, classical, or producer-driven electronica – River Sound has what you need to sound your best while working within your budget.
Rob Cosh is a mixing/mastering engineer, and piano tuner. He has worked on recordings spanning a diverse range of styles and genres for many local and national artists. He’s been recording and mixing music for the last 23 years. In that time he’s collected a variety of great tools and spent the long hours needed to learn them inside out. Variety is the spice of life, and he’s equally at home mixing a banging club track, a crunchy rock song or an instrumental jazz track. He’s also a musician, so when there is time between mixing and mastering projects, he’s pushing the boundaries of what he’s learned and trying new things on his own music. The studio is always busy!
With a live sound career spanning over 25 years, John‘s passion for audio has given him opportunity to work with some of Canada’s top performers and producers.
John has mixed sound in venues all over North America and now calls Ottawa home. He is fully engaged in the culturally rich and diverse Ottawa music scene – there are not many instruments that he hasn’t recorded. He loves exploring how sound translates in different venues, drawing on his live sound experience to track a recording. John‘s love of audio extends beyond mixing live music – he also teaches a course in live sound at Carleton University.
